This is Wherever Wednesday

Welcome to This is Wherever Wednesday!   At Wherever Wednesday we share those little moments that really show the character of the places we live.  Those times that just make you think "This is Texas"  (or California, Tibet, or Paris, or Africa or WHEREVER.)

As always, I want to share a few of the highlights from last month.   Well, actually, I'm gonna share all three posts because I liked them all!
  • There's Magic Out There walked us through the Western Heritage Parade and Cattle Drive in San Antonio, TX.
  • New Kid on the Loch made me long for summer with her pictures of beaches in Hong Kong.  I never thought of Hong Kong and great beaches before!  I don't know why...I mean it is on the waterfront.  This is why I love this hop...makes me look at places in a new light.

Please leave your "This is Wherever" posts on the linky below (whether your wherever is "New Mexico or Mexico, Up North, or Down Under").    If you're still a little uncertain what that means, this post over at Budget Blond will help you out.  And, though it's not required, I'd love if you would grab the This is Wherever button on the sidebar and share it in your post or somewhere else on your blog!  Thanks for participating!

Been Here 15+ Years, and I Ain't Met Texas Yet

A little over a year ago Princess of the Panhandle went through this song and crossing off all the things she'd done.   I started a post to do something similar, but just never got around to it until now.  Well, here it is.    The lines in bold green are the things I've seen, heard, and done. Blue is comments. Everything else is is what I HAVEN'T done.  So, I guess it seems in my 15+ years of living here, I haven't met much of Texas yet .

"My Texas" by the Josh Abbott Band
Songwriters: ABBOTT, JOSH / SHEPHERD, THOM

If you haven't climbed up to Enchanted Rock,
Drank a cold Shiner down in Luckenbach,
Taken your baby to the River Walk,
Then you ain't met My Texas yet.

If you haven't floated down the 'Ol Frio,
Heard Red Dirt music on your radio,*
Eaten Cooper's down in Llano,
Then you ain't met My Texas yet.

You haven't been to the Houston rodeo,
Sang "Carry On" at a Pat Green show,
If you ain't seen an Abilene sunset,
Then you ain't met My Texas yet.

If you never caught a trout down in Port A,  (Where's Port A?)
Heard the words to Corpus Christi Bay,
Never seen fireworks on PK,  (What's PK?)
Then you ain't met My Texas yet.

Haven't had a kolache when you go through West,
Never heard of the Larry Jo Taylor fest,
Think polished pop country crap sounds the best,**
Then you ain't met My Texas yet.

You haven't been to the Ft. Worth stock show,
Sang along with Cory Morrow, (Who?)
You ain't seen a hill country sunset,
Then you ain't met My Texas yet.

You say you haven't hiked through Big Bend,
Had your hair blown back by a Lubbock wind,
Been somewhere where they call you "friend",
Then you ain't met My Texas yet.

You haven't been to the San Antone Rodeo,
Sang "Everclear" at a Creager show,
If you ain't seen an El Paso sunset,
Then you ain't met My Texas yet.

No, you ain't met My Texas yet!

*though I had to look up what "Red Dirt Music" was.
**probably guilty--though you might have to define "crap pop country."

OK, Texas friends, if I could only do only ONE thing from this list this year, what should I do?   And what would you add to this list?  (Non-Texas friends...what's one thing I should do to meet YOUR state or country, if I ever visited?)
