4th of July Sky
I don't often take pictures of fireworks...photos don't often really capture their beauty. But the smoke around the fireworks this 4th was mesmerizing, and I had to try. I caught these...

THIS IS TEXAS: 2 Skies - 2 Colors - All Within 15 Mintues
These skies both happened last Thursday, not long after a tornado warning had been lifted. Thankfully it was calm the rest of the night with no further weather. To be sure we were watching the sky that day! This is Texas!

Sky Watch Friday
The sky behind my neighbor's tree. Just rediscovered these pictures and had to share them.

Texas Clouds
I love the clouds in Texas...anywhere in the Midwest actually. I don't remember ever seeing these puffy Simpson's style clouds out in California.
But even cooler is how these clouds move...

Storms and Rainbows
Above are some pictures of a rainbow after mild storm that hit last week.
Meanwhile, a long ways from Texas, the east coast was starting recovery efforts from Hurricane Sandy. I'm not in a good position to donate directly right now, but right now Zazzle has set up a program for artists sell things through Zazzle and donate 100% of the profits (Zazzle's and the artist's) to charities helping Hurricane Sandy victims, and so I've donated some items from my Scribbleprints shop. I thought about donating some things from the Texifornia Souvenir shop, but honestly, I hardly ever sell things there...so there didn't seem much point to setting that up. BUT, if you see something you like there, let me know, and I'll mark it to donate to Hurricane Sandy victims.
Another thing I thought of is that if there is any of my sky watch pictures (or any other pictures from this blog) that you would like as a poster, postcard, key-chain, puzzle, or whatever...let me know, and so long as there's no people in it, and it's mine (not one I used from Flickr), and it's big enough, I'll put it on whatever you want and mark it for Hurricane donations. Just leave me a comment or e-mail me at ecarian at yahoo dot com.
And for all you out there who were tossed by the winds, or who tossed by storms of another kind, this song's for you...
Hello hurricane, you're not enough
Hello hurricane, you can't silence my love
I've got doors and windows boarded up
All your dead end fury is not enough
You can't silence my love, my love

Sky Watch Friday
This is Texas: Beautiful skies over oak trees.
Hello everyone. I love seeing all the sky pictures from around the world on Sky Watch Friday, and I wanted to invite you all to another event where you can share your little piece of the world and go exploring. "This is Wherever Wednesday" was one of my favorite interenet memes, and when it ended, I asked The Budget Blond if she would mind if I continued it here on Texifornia. So, stop by Nov. 7th to link up all the crazy wonderful things you notice about your town this week.

Sky Watch Friday
Those first two are beautiful, aren't they? Love Texas sunsets! That last one I just through was funny...the single pink fluffy cloud just perched between the towers.
Welcome everyone visiting from Sky Watch (and welcome to my other visitors too). If you haven't heard, here in Texas we've suffered some terrible wildfires lately. Over 1500 homes were lost, and 4 people were killed. If you pray, I hope you'll join me in praying for those affected by this. If you want to learn about more ways to help, click here.

Sky Watch Friday - Cloudy Beach Skies
It's odd coming from Texas, where it's been over 100 degrees all summer, to get to the beach in San Diego, California and find it cloudy and a tad chilly at 3:00 in the afternoon...in AUGUST. What a switch! (Ironically when we went in October three years ago it was warm and sunny!)
Cloudy or not it was fun. It was my 3 year old's first time seeing the ocean, and he LOVED it (even after a wave dunked him...we didn't go very deep but at his height it doesn't take too much). All three of my boys had a blast.
Pelicans kept flying by in a V, and though I grew up living on a boat out there, I never remember seeing anything like it. They would fly by every 5 to 10 minutes. It was beautiful.

Sky Watch Friday - Mountain Moon
I noticed a lot of pictures of the huge moon last week at Sky Watch! It was amazing, wasn't it! Here's mine, taken August 12th on a turn-out on Rim of the World Highway (San Bernardino Mountains). There were at least 5 other people who stopped to snap pictures while I was taking these, and at least one had a very nice camera...so somewhere out there there are better versions of this. :-)
It was really beautiful. The pictures came out pretty good, but still didn't come close to capturing what it looked like in person.
