Souvenir Saturday - Buttons
Yes, yes...I haven't done a Souvenir Saturday in forever. Thought I'd share some fun Texas and California flair I found on Etsy and Zazzle. I found the button above at Pumpkin Bear. It's her homage to Texas, where she went to college and says she got into mucho mischief.
I found the button's below at Parsnip and Pear. They have nifty map buttons for various California and Texas cites.
And here's some of my favorites from Zazzle....
Texas Vintage Travel Poster by TheVintageVamp
I really liked this Texas button. It's actually a Vintage drawing SMOOSHED,
which I would have never known if I hadn't explored TheVintageVamp and found
the original. I think the resized button above came out with a fun
cartoonish look, in stead of looking distorted.
And now for some California buttons...
California Roots by California_Roots
And here's one I could wear to brag on my
Calfiornia upbringing.
Do you have a California or Texas product you'ld like to see featured here? Leave a comment with a link below and I'll consider it for a future Souvenir Saturday.

Small Talk 6 - Shirts I've Read and Loved
I was busy setting up a garage sale when the last Small Talk 6 was put up, but I'll have to crash this party late because I simply can't miss this one. You see, I sell T-Shirts through CafePress and Zazzle and Printfection, and when I'm not busy on my own shops I love browsing other's to see all the pretty and witty designs. So, since this IS Texifornia I'm sharing my 6 favorite Texas and California shirt slogans...and even THAT was hard to narrow down to 6!.
1. My favorite T-Shirt ever is....

1. My favorite T-Shirt ever is....

Ski Texas T-Shirt by the Online Paper Airplane Museum
...and yeah, my love of it has as much to do with the picture as the slogan.

...and yeah, my love of it has as much to do with the picture as the slogan.
2. You've probably heard of the Slogan "Don't Mess With Texas" --well, there are so many good parodies of that it was hard to choose. Here's one of my faves...
If you can't read that, it says
This shirt is by Americasaurus.
3. And here's another...
4. You may have seen shirts with the slogan "Keep Austin Weird" before (which, by the way, I love). But even better still is this Lubbock Parody....
5. Ok, time for some California tees already! Here's one that makes me laugh (if someone reads this long in the future, this was from the age of Arnold):
6. And this one is perfectly Texifornian...
This one is by one of my favorite Celtic artists,
Only the CafePress shop has this design, which is a bit
out of character from his intricately drawn artwork.
There's versions for other states too, including Texas.
So there you have it...my 6 favorite Texas/California Slogans (for now...I'm bound to find more). If you have a blog you can post your own Small Talk 6 and leave a link on MomDot. If you don't have a blog, feel free to join in by posting your 6 in a comment below!
The CafePress shirt images are used without permission in the hopes that these artists would want me to use them to promote their shirts--but if anyone does not want these images posted on this blog, please let me know and I'll take them down right away. The Zazzle t-shirts are linked through the Zazzle Affiliate program. It's easier to link them that way, but I can also earn money if you buy them through my links (which I don't mind a bit either).

Souvenir Saturday - My Five Favorite Flowers
I've decided to mix my Souvenir Saturday today with a meme called Small Talk 6. Their topic of the week is your 6 favorite flowers, and since I was doing flowers for Souvenir Saturday this month, I thought, how perfect! Of course, not all of my favorite flowers come from Texas or California, so this will be slightly off the normal topic, but still fun!
Lisianthus
I discovered this one when I worked at a nursery in California.
Queen Anne's Lace
I fell in love with this flower visiting my grandma in New England as a little girl. I also love the poem by that name by William Carlos Williams.

Foxglove
Another beauty I found while working at a nursery.
Morning Glory
I love these because I can actually grow them, and because of their lovely flowers and vining vining leaves!
Mexican Evening Primrose
My favorite Texas wildflower, which I've waxed on about enough already here.

Columbine
These flowers decorated the edges of trails I went hiking on as a child in Sequoia National Forest. I thought they looked like shooting stars.

Souvenir Saturday - California Poppies
Every Saturday, ok...almost every Saturday (alright, alright...on an occasional Saturday) I feature stuff I find with a California or Texas theme. For the last few times the theme has been Texas flowers, so I thought it was time to feature some California beauties...namely, the ever photogenic California Poppy!
Links to Zazzle are made in association with Zazzle.com (that's code for: I make money if you buy things through these links).
Isn't she lovely?
They're even lovelier when they're together!
I loved seeing them covering the hillsides when we would go on roadtrips...they'd make the hills look like someone had splashed them with orange paint.
They look pretty combined with other flowers too! This looks like bluebonnets, but it's actually Lupine, a related flower (bluebonnets are in the Lupine family too...but there grow taller and a little less thick, at least the ones I remember).

Primrose Discovery
Guess what I found in my yard?
Well, yes, I often find that cutiepie in my yard,
but I meant the flowers.
I thought this one was appropriate for this blog, with the lone California Poppy...
And here's a lovely close up...
I like how this last one shows the primrose buds. Beautiful!

So, what's your favorite wildflower?
Well, yes, I often find that cutiepie in my yard,
but I meant the flowers.
I was so excited when they came up, because Mexican Evening Primrose is my favorite Texas wildflower. And no, I didn't plant these (at least not that I can remember). When we moved into our house last May, the yard was nicely mowed, so even if these beauties had still been around, I wouldn't have known...but they are here now, in both my front and back yard! Yeah!
My first experience with these beauties was when I was working at a nursery in California. We got some of these pink pretties in, and another lady who worked there who had lived in Texas started laughing. "I can't believe they're selling these!" she said. "They're weeds in Texas."
"Some pretty weed," I thought.
But I didn't know the half of it. Not until I saw them overflowing the median on I-20, waving in the wind like a frothy pink sea. It took my breath away...even more so than the bluebonnets did, gorgeous as they are.
Wish I had a picture of that! But here are some primrose posters and postcards I found on Zazzle.

Souvenir Saturday - The Force is Strong With Ya'll
The week before last we put on a Star Wars party for my son, so when I stumbled on the following T-shirt, well I had my Souvenir Saturday theme.

You can find these stickers (and shirt and more with this design) at CafePress.

(On the back it says "May the Force Be With Ya'll")
OK, there's not a hugh amount ofTexas/California related Star Wars Souvenirs out there, but I did one for California too. Love this:

Souvenir Saturdays - Snow Gear for 2010
I haven't done a "Souvenir Saturday" for a while, so I thought I'd dedicate this one to...

Texas snow is usually RARE and BARE.
If you wanted to ski in Texas it might look something like this...

But several times this year there was enough snow to make people actually bring out their sleds, skis and snowboards they usually keep only for trips to other states.
We even got SNOW ON CHRISTMAS in
much of the state!
Hmm...wonder if we'll get snow on Easter like we did several years back...
Weren't those bluebonnets pretty in the snow?
Gotta love Texas weather!
(OK, maybe not. But it does bring surprises doesn't it!)
The products listed on this post are from artist shops at Zazzle (except the "Ski Texas" T-shirt which is from CafePress). I earn 15% off sales through these Zazzle Links.

Souvenir Saturdays - Giveaways for Homesick Texifornians
I'm posting Souvenir Saturdays a day early today! Might be adding more to this tomorrow though!

I'm giving away winner's choice of either iced tea from Bush's Chicken or a postcard from Texas. I thought that would be nice for a visitor wanting a taste of Texas, or a homesick Texan wanting a taste of home. Along my travels I've found some other giveaways that Texifornian's might enjoy:
If you're missing the beaches of California or Texas, wearing a tiny capsule of treasures from the ocean might remind you of home.
Or you might enjoy flipping through the pages of 16 x Mom, a true story of a woman who raised her 16 children in the heart of San Jose, California which chronicles over 100 years of California history.
And, who wouldn't enjoy some Cowgirl Chocholate?...cowgirls are definitely a part of both Texas and California history and lore, and chocolate is always a good treatment for homesickness (IMHO). On my regular travels (not through One World One Heart), I found several blogs giving Cowgirl Chocholates away...
