Sky Watch Friday - Cloudy Beach Skies

It's odd coming from Texas, where it's been over 100 degrees all summer, to get to the beach in San Diego, California and find it cloudy and a tad chilly at 3:00 in the afternoon...in AUGUST.   What a switch!  (Ironically when we went in October three years ago it was warm and sunny!)

Cloudy or not it was fun.  It was my 3 year old's first time seeing the ocean, and he LOVED it (even after a wave dunked him...we didn't go very deep but at his height it doesn't take too much).   All three of my boys had a blast.

Pelicans kept flying by in a V, and though I grew up living on a boat out there, I never remember seeing anything like it.  They would fly by every 5 to 10 minutes.  It was beautiful.

  1. Pelicans! Amazing! I've never seen so many of them together!

    BLESSED BE THE SKY

    Cloudy, clear,
    Bright or drear—
    Blessed be the sky!

    Sun and star,
    Near or far—
    Blessed be the sky!

    Rain or snow,
    Sunset glow—
    Blessed be the sky!

    Wind or calm,
    Healing balm—
    Blessed be the sky!

  2. Looks like a wonderful day at the beach! The pelicans just make it even more special! I wonder why they were flying in formation, so often...

  3. Beautiful V flight of the birds!

Its cooler in San Diego than in LA. We are experiencing high heat now, some areas reaching in triple digits!

  4. Fantastic shots of the Pelicans flying in formation, I didn't know they did that. I just left Jabblog's photo's of Canada Geese flying in formation too. (About 2 stops before you.)
Looks like you had a great day at the beach.

  5. Wonderful coincidence here--my daughter's on her way to San Diego today, after having taken the photos I've place on Owl's Farm. I absolutely ache for beach these days, so I really enjoyed seeing these shots. Galveston's closer, but San Diego's in a less dangerous place, at least for the moment. Hope your place in Texas isn't in the fire danger area!
